PENNY HANDSCOMB -
Sr Advisor to the AL Group & Executive In Residence
Penny Handscomb has lived and worked in the UK, US, Canada, Israel, and Africa, and has spent a significant amount of time in a variety of emerging markets. She has helped build businesses as well as support organizations as they have scaled and managed change.
Penny spent over 5 years working for a social impact Venture Capital organization, Omidyar Network, where she was a partner of the firm and the leader of the Human Capital practice. She advised another investment firm focused on entrepreneurs in emerging markets, was on the board for one of Africa’s fastest growing Edtech organizations, and spent most of her career working in entrepreneurial environments across various industries from technology, ecommerce, gaming, e-fashion, telecommunications to many non-profits in the open data space to independent media, education, microfinance and think tanks.
Penny graduated from both University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo Canada, has her Senior Professional (SPHR) and Certified Human Relations (CHRP) designations in the Human Resource field. She worked as adjunct faculty in California for four years and is a Certified Professional Coach through the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, where she also received her Master Coach Certificate, and is a PCC credentialed coach through the ICF.
